Mixed Kids Meet Ups

Community is tremendously important to Lisa. In her journey of exploring her mixed identity, she crossed paths with Jason Sutherland Hsu, founder of Mixed Blood Project. Over the past few years, Lisa, Jason and other community members have developed friendships and connections around a shared sense of feeling “other” and what it means to be both Asian and white.

From Jason’s website: “Mixed Blood is an open ended portrait project starting with those who are the first mixed-race Asian generation in their immediate families. This project is a meditation on our experience: How we are seen; How we see ourselves; How we see each other; How seeing and being seen informs how we know ourselves. The creative process and resulting body of work endeavors to inspire individual and communal belonging and understanding by supporting identity consciousness.”

In 2021, the first official Mixed Kids Meet Up (then known as Hapapalooza) was held in Golden Gate Park. This was the beginning of our humble community.

Events range from small, casual gatherings to larger scale community events with food, music and discussion. While most of our members identify as mixed race: Asian / White, everyone is welcome. Partners, parents and children are also encouraged to attend.
